What Is The Betterman Elite Academy

Founded by Joe and Deanna Betterman the Betterman Elite Academy was built on the idea that athletes of all communities and backgrounds deserve a chance to succeed both in the wrestling world and in the real world. With your help, the Betterman Elite Academy can continue the goal of bringing the gift of wrestling to athletes in a community near you and providing them the resources necessary for them to succeed with a world-class coaching staff and a driven environment for success. What Does Wrestling Mean To You

Wrestling is a sport that goes further than just the mat, it builds a sense of community and family amongst its competitors while also having the power to change lives and shape futures. That is why the  Betterman Elite Academy was started in order to give athletes of all backgrounds and different communities an opportunity to change their lives and shape their futures through the use of wrestling. Below you’ll find stories from some of our athletes and wrestling colleagues around the world about what wrestling means to them.

To me, wrestling isn’t just my job and isn’t just a sport. To me wrestling is a lifestyle. To indulge and engulf myself fully and whole-heartedly, it has shaped me into the human being I am. It has taught me the meaning of honestly being true to myself and knowing the effort I put in to it. It has helped me become the Soldier-Athlete that I am and has prepared me for life’s battles and speed bumps. It has graced me with the highest of highs, and lowest of lows, but keeps me constantly seeking for growth. To me, wrestling is my drug that keeps me waking up for more.

Growing up I didn't live in the best neighborhoods and sometimes things in my life weren't always consistent for me; however, the one thing I could always depend on was that no matter where I was or what I was doing in life is that wrestling would always be there for me. Wrestling kept me off the streets and taught me important life lessons such as discipline and how to build character. I owe a lot to wrestling and I wanted to start this academy for kids like me who just want some consistency in their lives and an opportunity to grow as individuals through the sport of wrestling.

Wrestling is something I've been surrounded by my whole life. Even at a young age my father coached a wrestling club in Maine and from the moment I was able to walk meant that I was able to wrestle. Being one of the few girls to wrestle at such a high level and such a young age could be kind of nerve racking at times, but I think it shaped me into the person I am today and taught me a lot about myself. I learned that being different from the crowd is okay and embracing what makes you different is what makes each individual special.
